Radio and ICTs in Africa – reaching a global audience (podcast)

At the link below, you can listen to a podcast of researchers from the Institute of Development Studies in the UK discussing how ICTs (Information and Communication Technologies) such as the Internet and mobile phones, are transforming radio use in Africa. ICTs are also enabling local radio stations to reach global audiences.

The speakers discuss two countries with very different media landscapes: Zimbabwe and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Pirate radio stations based in other countries use podcasts, SMSs and the Internet to reach audiences in Zimbabwe. In DRC, Radio Okapi uses the Internet to reach and stay in touch with Congolese citizens around the world.
