Farm Radio ‘Participatory Agricultural Radio Series’ in Ethiopia
Date Posted: August 20th, 2012
Farm Radio International recently worked with the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) to support their Improved Productivity for Marketing Success initiative by developing two “Participatory Agricultural Radio Series.” These six-episode series were widely listened to and led to gains in knowledge among farming women and men. The series in Sidama (in southern Ethiopia) focused on fruit tree production, while in Tigray (in the north), the programs covered honey production and marketing.
A follow-up evaluation confirmed that the more episodes farmers listened to, the greater knowledge they had of benefits and techniques to improve their beekeeping and fruit tree cultivation methods.
ILRI provides a short description here, where you can also find and listen to the six episodes of the radio program in the Sidamegna language on fruit tree production in Sidama.
