Strength in numbers
Date Posted: October 29th, 2012
Our first story this week is from Cameroon. We hear how a small group of farmers is working together for everyone’s benefit. By assisting each other with harvesting, and then selling at an agreed minimum price, they all profit.
In our second original story, the news is not so good. Urban farmers in a city in Congo-Brazzaville are being removed to make way for urban development. Many are losing their main source of income. With little legal recourse, they must seek land elsewhere.
In our Farm Radio Action section, you will find a link to a chapter where you can read about Farm Radio International’s pioneering Participatory Radio Campaigns (PRCs). Written by our Executive Director, Kevin Perkins, the chapter explains how PRCs were designed as an effective way for farmers to learn about and decide whether to adopt new agricultural practices.
Finally, the Script of the Week is from our most recent script package on co-operatives.
Happy reading!
